GSS Experience

Geodetic Software Systems (GSS) was founded by Peter A. Steeves, B. Sc., M. Sc., P. Eng., Ph. D. (Surveying Engineering, The University of New Brunswick) in 1975. Dr. Steeves began GSS on a part time basis while he fulfilled his residency requirements at UNB and for the 5 years that he taught Survey Science at the University of Toronto. He has operated GSS on a full time basis since 1982. Dr. Steeves supervised the research and development of the following projects:

Marshall Macklin Monaghan Limited, Don Mills, Ontario.
  • Least Squares Adjustment of Horizontal Control Networks(1975)
  • Least Squares Adjustment of Vertical Control Networks(1977)
  • Least Squares Adjustment of Photogrammetric Blocks(1979)
  • Least Squares Adjustment of Doppler Control(1980)
  • These programs were capable of adjusting 100,000 points on a 128 Kilo Byte Computer.
Canadian International Development Agency.
  • Three week course on Micro Computers(1982) Kingston Jamaica.
Coote and Jackson Limited, Huntsville, Ontario.
  • Development of a 3-D Coordinate Geometry Package for Pipe Line Surveys (1982).
John Kennedy Limited.
  • Developent of a Ground Surveying Software System for the HP 9815 Computer (1983).
Geodetic Surveys of Canada.
  • Development of an algorithm to compute inverse for any part of the normal equation matrix outside of the variable band (1984).
Geodetic Software Systems' own products to sell on the open market (1984 to present).
  • Logical Coordinate Geometry.
  • Logical ASCII.
  • Logical Astronomic Azimuths.
  • Logical Stations.
  • Logical R-Plan Developer.
  • Logical Plan of Subdivision Developer.
  • Logical Lots and Buildings.
  • Logical Digital Terrain Modeling.
  • Logical Least Squares Adjustment of Vertical Control Networks.
  • Logical Least Squares Adjustment of Horizontal Control Networks.
  • Logical Least Squares Adjustment of GPS Vectors (under development).

Testimonials

The least squares adjustments programs researched and developed for us, by Dr. Steeves, were completed on a level above our expectations. The software can best be described as being years ahead of its time.
Albin Tarvydas, Professional Land Surveyor (Retired) and Geodesist, Ontario, Canada.

"...The Logical Surveyor™ is the simplest to learn and use, the most complete, and the most powerful ground surveying software system that I have ever used, seen demonstrated or read about."
W. M. Fenton, Professional Land Surveyor, Ontario, Canada.

"...I feel that the Logical Surveyor™ is the best ground surveying software on the market today for a general land surveying office. ... Any land surveyor buying a system today, who does not, at least, try the Logical Surveyor, is doing himself a disservice."
Tony Marszalek, Senior Land Survey Draughtsperson, City of Toronto, Ontario, Canada.

"...I purchased the Logical Surveyor™, DynaCADD™, a plotter and a total station in October 1987 specifically to compute and map an as-built and topographic survey for a large building complex. I learned how to use the Logical Surveyor and DynaCADD, computed and mapped the largest survey of my life (on time) and made a profit."
J. Glen Rupert, Professional Land Surveyor, Ontario, Canada.
